NESE Hires New Academic Director: Ashim Shanker, Ed.M., Harvard University

As NESE’s current Academic Director prepares to leave NESE to have her first baby, we are delighted to announce that Ashim Shanker will be joining us.

Ashim Shanker received his Master’s degree in Education from Harvard University, and his Bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. His academic focus while at Harvard was international education, with a specific focus on strategies in effective classroom practices across different cultures. Further, while at Harvard, he was selected to become a Teaching Fellow for Howard Gardner, the renowned developmental psychologist and the John H. and Elisabeth A. Hobbs Professor of Cognition and Education.

Mr. Shanker gained his teaching experience in a variety of educational settings in Japan, where he lived for twelve years (and learned to speak Japanese). He is an avid writer, and has published both academic papers and fiction. He brings to NESE a wealth of experience, and thus serves NESE’s teachers and students as a support that is second to none.
