CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY - FAQ

Cancellation and Refund Policy Fair and Equitable Policy: The New England School of English has established and maintains a fair and equitable, clearly defined and uniformly administered cancellation and refund policy for cancellations, withdrawals and terminations. 1) Non-Refundable Fees The following fees are not refundable if a student should cancel or withdraw: NESE Application Fee* Express Courier Fee (if an express mail package has been sent prior to cancellation) * If a student’s visa application has been rejected or in the case of a global emergency (such as the Covid-19 pandemic), NESE will refund application fees, as well. 2) Refund Due Dates Using the Last Day of Attendance to make a calculation based on percentage of weeks earned, NESE will make all refunds within 45 days from the documented Date of Determination. If a student does attend initially and/or attends but stops and no notice is received, NESE will automatically withdraw or cancel a student after absences of 30 consecutive days. NESE will further ensure the refund is processed within 45 days of the first day of absence. If the student cancels before attending any classes, the 45-day period will begin on the date of cancellation, which will also serve as the documented Date of Determination. 3) Form of Refund Refunds will be given in the same form as payment was originally made. 4) Cancellation of Classes Cancellation Before the Student’s Course Has Started: Apart from the Express Courier Fee and Application Fee, ALL tuition, airport transfer, prepaid book fees and health insurance fees will be refunded. Withdrawal from Classes After the Student’s Course Has Started: Refund amounts will be calculated according to the student’s Last Day of Attendance (LDA). NESE will consider attendance during the first week of classes as a trial period. NESE will refund all but the NESE application fee of $185 to any student who begins courses but decides to cancel prior to the fifth day of classes. NESE will not maintain more than 10% of the total tuition fee for the 4-week term if a student cancels after the 4-day trial period but before Week 2 of the 4-week session. If a student’s LDA occurs before the mid-point of any 4-week session of study, the remainder of the 4-week session will be refunded to the student on a prorated basis and calculated on percentage of time the student has completed of this 4-week session. If a student’s LDA should fall mid-week during Week 2 of a 4-week session, this week will be considered by NESE as a whole week of study rather than a partial week, and the refund shall be calculated as though the entire week were completed. If a student’s LDA occurs after the mid-point of any 4-week session of study, the remainder of the 4-week session’s tuition will be retained by NESE. NESE never retains any fees associated with periods of enrollment beyond the current and/or initial 4-week session. Fees associated with future periods of enrollment are refunded in full and as a matter of course - and always have been. If NESE Does Not Receive Notice of Course Cancellation: NESE will cancel and refund the student’s tuition and all other refundable fees within 45 days of the scheduled start date. 5) Cancellation of Program by Institution If NESE cancels a program subsequent to a student's enrollment, NESE will refund all monies paid by the student within 45 days of the cancellation of the program. 6) Cancellation of Housing Cancellation Before the Student’s Accommodation Has Started: Students who cancel their NESE Housing less than two weeks before the start of their course, will forfeit $250 as agreed to by their completed but separate Housing Deposit Guarantee agreement. Withdrawal from Housing After the Student’s Housing Has Started: If a student’s LDA occurs before the mid-point of any 4-week session of accommodation, the remainder of the 4-week session’s accommodation will be refunded to the student on a prorated basis and calculated on the exact percentage of the 4-week accommodation period the student has completed of this 4-week session. If a student’s LDA occurs after the mid-point of any 4-week session of accommodation, the remainder of the 4-week session will be retained by NESE’s Housing Department and subsequently refunded to homestays or dormitories, respectively. If NESE Does Not Receive Notice of Housing Cancellation: NESE will cancel and refund the student’s housing fees within 45 days of the scheduled start date. 7) Calculation of Refund NESE completes and documents refund calculations for each student who cancels or withdraws. Each student’s refund documentation includes a calculation worksheet including: Last Date of Attendance Date of Determination Charges to the Student Total Amount Paid Weeks Earned and Resulting Percentage of Program Completed Calculation of Refund 8) Tuition Discounting and Subsequent Sessions NESE allows tuition discounting for the enrollment of multiple terms. The terms and time-lines of NESE cancellation and refund policy, as outlined above, also apply to each subsequent 4-week term of enrollment for registered students. Again, any fees associated with future (neither the initial nor current) 4-week terms are refunded in full.
